Preparation Positions You for Victory

From the very first note of the sermon “Walk in Obedience,” something different was stirring in the sanctuary. The call wasn’t just to praise, it was to prepare. The Word wasn’t only about miracles, but about the soil they grow in: obedience.

God’s presence doesn’t fall on empty hearts or half-filled vessels. It rests on people who are ready, those who have built their ark before the rain comes. By faith Noah built an ark to save his family (Hebrews 11:7).

Faith isn’t a reaction; it’s preparation. When we pray, worship, and stay disciplined through the week, we create space for God to pour freely. In preparation, before you even get to God’s house, make sure you’ve already prayed and asked for forgiveness of your sins. Don’t wait until service starts to repent, come ready.

Come Clean

Psalm 24:3–4 — “Who may stand in His holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart.”

Living clean isn’t just about avoiding sin, it’s about walking in alignment with God’s truth. When your life reflects purity and integrity, you open the door for His blessings to flow freely. If you come to church and hear the Word week after week but nothing is changing, it’s time to pause and evaluate. Ask yourself: How am I living? What needs to change?

Sitting in what you’ve done and taking accountability is the key to true transformation. It’s not about blaming others or circumstances, it’s about being honest before God. Sometimes He allows us to sit through lessons so we don’t have to repeat them. But if we refuse to learn, we’ll keep taking the same test over and over, and miss the fullness of what God wants to release in our lives.

Watch What You Watch

Psalm 101:3 — “I will set before my eyes no vile thing.”

Sunday Pastor paused and said, “Watch what you’re watching.” Not everything that entertains you is harmless. What you feed your eyes will soon feed your spirit. Some atmospheres enter our homes through screens and sounds. God’s call was clear, guard your gates. When you honor Him with what you watch and listen to, you protect the peace He planted in you.

Obey Quickly

1 Samuel 15:22 — “To obey is better than sacrifice.”

One of the most powerful moments came when Dr. Gregory shared his story of obedience. Years ago, he turned down a six-figure job in New York after God spoke through his mother to warn him not to go. A year later, tragedy struck the very area where he would have lived. His obedience preserved his life and positioned his destiny.

But before obedience can take root, our hearts must be open to correction. When Dr. GreGory received that warning from his mother, he could have brushed it off, but he chose to listen. We have to cultivate the right spirit to receive a word we might not want to hear.

Our Bishop also reminded us that when things aren’t going right, we need to look to our spiritual leaders and take cues from their walk with Christ. Don’t overlook the examples God has placed before you. The world will always tell you what you want to hear, but your spiritual leaders seek God on your behalf. Their counsel may be the very thing that keeps you safe and aligned with His will.

Let Go of Bitterness

Ephesians 4:31-32 — “Get rid of all bitterness… forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Pastor spoke honestly about family differences, misunderstandings, and even painful childhood experiences, but he never let offense take root. “You can have differences without hate,” he said. That’s a word for all of us. Bitterness poisons the soil of your spirit. Forgiveness doesn’t excuse what happened; it releases what was holding you back. When you forgive, you heal.

Let Your Roots Speak

Colossians 2:7 — “Let your roots grow down into Him and let your lives be built on Him.”

As he pointed to the art piece in the sanctuary, a sculpture of twisted roots and weathered wood—Pastor said, “This root went through storms, but it came out beautiful.” It became a symbol for every believer: your scars tell a story of survival. Obedience turns pain into purpose and roots into testimony. The storms didn’t destroy you; they proved your strength.

Closing Reflection

When we walk in obedience, we don’t just follow orders, we step into alignment with destiny. Every “yes” to God becomes a seed that grows into something eternal. This week, prepare early, walk clean, stay watchful, forgive quickly, give without fear, and trust that even the hard seasons are shaping your roots. Because obedience isn’t a burden, it’s the bridge between faith and fulfillment.
