Pick Up the Pieces… There’s Still a Miracle There

Dr. GreGory Wendell’s sermon “Mama Said” gave us a message that reached into so many areas of everyday life — family, honor, obedience, healing, timing, and faith.
Using the story of Jesus turning water into wine in John 2, Pastor reminded us that Mary saw something in Jesus before the miracle was ever revealed publicly. Jesus said His time had not yet come, but Mary spoke with faith and expectation: “Whatever He says to you, do it.” That one instruction still speaks to us today.
Sometimes we are waiting for God to move, but God is waiting for us to obey. The miracle began when the servants followed the instruction. They filled the water pots. They drew it out. They carried it forward. And somewhere in their obedience, ordinary water became something miraculous. But the message did not stop there.
Pastor also reminded us that honor matters, but honor is not permission for mistreatment. We can respect people without allowing dysfunction, manipulation, or pain to keep destroying us. Sometimes honor looks like prayer. Sometimes it looks like boundaries. Sometimes it looks like choosing peace instead of bitterness.
Then came the reminder about the fragments. After Jesus fed the multitude, He told the disciples to gather up what remained so nothing would be lost. That part felt deeply personal. Because many of us have fragments — pieces of joy, trust, confidence, peace, strength, and hope that were scattered through difficult seasons.
But God does not want us to keep walking past those pieces.
He wants us to pick them up.
The part you have been avoiding may be the very place where God wants to show you the miracle. The leftover pieces may become evidence that He sustained you, carried you, and brought you further than you realized.
So this week, do not ignore the small things. Do not dismiss the broken pieces. Do not keep postponing what God is calling you to do now.
Maybe the word is simple: obey.
Maybe the word is: heal.
Maybe the word is: pick it up.
Because what looks like fragments to you may still be proof of a miracle in God’s hands.
