What Have You Been Feeding Your Spirit?

Sometimes God has to interrupt our direction because something is quietly pulling us the wrong way. We usually notice the big decisions. But what about the little things we repeatedly watch, listen to, entertain, think about, or excuse?
Those things matter too.
Pastor said something simple but powerful in his sermon “Stay In Reverse”: What we feed ourselves eventually comes out of us.
Think about everyday life. A song can change your mood. A conversation can leave you irritated for hours. Something you continually watch can slowly change what feels normal. One negative thought repeated long enough can begin influencing decisions.
That’s why guarding our spirit isn’t about living afraid of everything around us. It’s about staying sensitive enough to hear God clearly.
Sometimes even a good idea needs to be surrendered to God. Saul believed he had a good reason for what he did, but it wasn’t what God had instructed. That reminds us that the question isn’t simply, “Does this seem right to me?”. It’s also, “God, is this what You want for me?” And when God uses His Word, His Spirit, or even someone who loves us to reveal an area that needs attention, we don’t have to become defensive.
We can simply pray: “Lord, show me what I can’t see. Guard what I hear. Guard what I see. Guard what comes out of my mouth. And keep me in position with You.”
Sometimes reversal looks like a miracle. And sometimes reversal is simply God helping us recognize that we were headed in the wrong direction—and giving us the grace to turn around.
This week, what is one area of your life you want to be more intentional about protecting?
