Chasing Rainbows, Finding Promises

Storms Come, Winds Blow—But Look for the Rainbow

Life gets messy. Yet as Dr. GreGory reminded us, God always leaves a sign that He hasn’t forgotten us. That sign is the rainbow. It’s not just a beautiful arc in the sky—it's a divine reminder of God’s covenant and faithfulness.

God’s Covenant (Genesis 9:13-17)

  • The rainbow is a physical sign of God’s everlasting promise to never again flood the entire earth.

  • “When you see a rainbow, God sees it too,” Pastor noted, reminding us that the rainbow is a shared moment of recognition and remembrance.

  • This covenant signifies humanity’s abiding connection with God—an unbroken thread that, even in times of chaos, anchors us to His love.

Seeking God’s Promises

  • After life’s storms, we’re called to look up for the rainbow as a beacon of hope and God’s faithfulness.

  • God’s promises act like anchors in difficult times, stabilizing us when we feel tossed by the waves of life.

  • To truly embrace these promises, Dr. GreGory encourages us to seek them actively through prayer and the Scriptures, rather than passively waiting for them to appear.

“His promises don’t expire. They’re as true today as they were yesterday.”

Bouncing Back from Judgment

  • The first rainbow appeared after God judged the world for its unrighteousness. This reveals an important truth: judgment and correction often precede renewal and growth.

  • Pastor challenged us to bounce back and become stronger after periods of judgment. It’s part of God’s refining process to prepare us for something new.

  • “Storms might leave a mess,” he said, “but God’s promise remains, and so must our hope.”

Cleaning Up Our Hearts

  • Judgment—whether personal conviction or life’s “wake-up calls”—serves as a catalyst to clean up our hearts.

  • Dr. GreGory emphasized the importance of examining our choices, repenting when necessary, and allowing God to uproot negativity from our lives.

  • “Don’t waste your anointing on the wrong fight,” he said, stressing that we should release distractions, toxic relationships, and anything that hinders our spiritual growth.

“When we let God’s love guide us, we create a heart of obedience that’s ready for His new outpouring.”

God’s Love

  • A particularly moving image: the rainbow’s full circle (though we usually see only part of it) represents God’s complete view of us—our faults, our needs, our potential.

  • “You might only see part of the picture, but God sees the whole thing,”.

  • Trust in God’s love and believe in His transformative power to guide you from where you are to where you need to be.

Embracing God’s Perspective

  • Pastor also integrated science into his explanation of the rainbow, noting how light refracts and reflects. But he cautioned listeners not to get lost in the physics alone.

  • “Understanding how something works doesn’t mean you understand why it exists,” he said. Instead of being stuck in the ‘how,’ focus on the God who created it all.

  • By aligning ourselves with God’s perspective, we learn to see beyond the storm—to the covenant, the hope, and the future He’s prepared.

Moving Forward: Look Up, Clean Up, Open Up

  1. When life’s storms roll in, don’t panic—look up and look for the rainbow, that reminder of God’s faithfulness.

  2. Let the Holy Spirit reveal areas that need to change. Clean up what’s cluttering your heart to make space for God’s new thing.

  3. God can meet you wherever you are—even on your deathbed. Keep your heart open to His guidance, correction, and love.

“Don’t be afraid of what’s ahead. Yes, storms come, but God’s love remains.”

The rainbow stands as God’s way of saying, “I’m still here. I still keep My promises.” So take a moment this week to remember:

  • His promises are eternal.

  • He sees the whole picture.

  • He loves you enough to guide you through any storm.

No matter what you’re facing, look for the rainbow—and know that God sees it too, smiling over you with love and faithful promises.

Which part of this sermon has taken hold in your spirit?

  • When the skies clear, I'm looking for the rainbow.

  • Making room for the new.

  • Listening for God’s voice, and obeying what He’s saying now.

  • Letting go of what's hindering my progress.
