At The Scent…Will You Respond?

From the sermon “I Smell Rain” by Dr. GreGory Wendell. Let’s take a few moments to reflect on this word and how it applies to our everyday walk.
This week’s message reminds us that God doesn’t need perfect conditions to move in our lives… He just needs a response.
In Job 14, the Bible says that even a tree that has been cut down—old roots, no life, completely dry—can still grow again at the scent of water.
Not the flood.
Not the rainstorm.
Just the scent.
That means something inside of us was designed to respond to God… even before we see results.
And if we’re honest, there are moments when life feels dry. Moments when things haven’t changed. Moments when we don’t feel strong, motivated, or ready.
But this word challenges us… don’t wait until everything looks better to respond.
You can respond while you’re tired.
You can respond while things feel unclear.
You can respond even when nothing has changed yet.
Because the shift starts with alignment, not effort.
And maybe that nudge you’ve been feeling…
That stirring in your spirit…
That sense that something is about to change…
That’s your signal. God is releasing something, and your response matters.
So today, take a moment and ask yourself…
Am I drawing close enough to God to recognize what He’s doing?
Let this be the week that you don’t just hear the word…
You respond to it.
