The Truth About Sacrifice

From the sermon “What Is a Sacrifice” by Dr. GreGory Wendell… let’s take a moment to reflect.
We often think of sacrifice as simply giving something up…
But this word reminded us—it’s deeper than that.
A true sacrifice is not just what you release…
It’s what you live without.
It’s the absence you feel.
It’s the cost you carry.
Jesus didn’t just offer His life…
He went without it.
He felt the weight.
He endured the separation.
And in our own lives… sacrifice doesn’t always look big or dramatic.
Sometimes it looks like choosing obedience when it’s uncomfortable.
Letting go of something you’ve grown attached to.
Or staying faithful in a season that feels like “less.”
But here’s the beauty of it…
When sacrifice is rooted in love…
And strengthened by joy…
It doesn’t break you—it builds you.
Jesus said His yoke is easy and His burden is light.
Which means—He’s not trying to add pressure to your life…
He’s trying to free you from what’s been weighing you down.
So today… take a moment and ask yourself:
Is there something I’ve been holding onto…
That God is asking me to release… and truly live without?
Because on the other side of that sacrifice…
There’s freedom.
Take a moment… reflect… and let God lead you forward.
