1 14 oz package of caramels 1 18.25 oz package
unwrapped chocolate cake mix (plus
1/2 cup butter or margarine ingredients to prepare mix)
1 14 oz. can sweetened 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
Preheat oven to 350°. In heavy saucepan over low heat, melt caramels and butter.
Remove from heat; add sweetened condensed milk. Mix well. Set aside caramel mixture. Prepare
cake mix as package directs. Spread 2 cups cake batter into greased 13x9 inch baking pan;
bake 15 minutes. Spread caramel mixture evenly over cake; spread remaining cake batter over
caramel mixture. Top with pecans. Return to oven; bake 30 to 35 minutes or until cake springs
back when lightly touched. Cool. Makes one 13 x 9 inch cake.
