HISTORY
Pastor Gordon Cashwell received Christ in 1987. While attending medical school in
Syracuse, New York he was involved in evangelism and ministry in his local church. After approximately a
year Gordon felt God calling him to full time ministry. He left medical school, and entered seminary
at Columbia International University in Columbia, SC where he graduated in 1992 with a Masters of Divinity. He
began working as a US missionary for the Assemblies of God, on a team to help establish Capital City Church in downtown
Columbia, SC. God gave Pastor Gordon a heart and an annointing to minister to the poor and brokenhearted, particularly in
urban areas. While attending seminary he meet his wife, Kim, whom he married in November of 1994, just as
Capital City church was launching. They had their first child, Kara, in September 1995. Kara was born with
cystic fibrosis. However, the devil could not stop what God had started. Through much prayer and believing for a
mircle, Kara was healed from cystic fibrosis at age one.
In early 1997 God began calling Pastor Gordon and his family
to the inner city of Charleston, SC. Being obediant to the Lord's calling, they moved to Charleston, SC in July of
1997 and in November started Hope Assembly. Since then, God has added to their family Sara (in January
of 2002), and Autumn (adopted in June of 2007).
